Car Wash Benefiting PlayGrand Adventures

By | #PlayGrand

Here’s another great opportunity to support the PlayGrand Adventures project this weekend, Saturday, May 19!

Joshua Hooten, a 9th grader at Dubiski High School, along with his family took it upon themselves to coordinate a carwash for the second year in a row in support of PlayGrand Adventures. It’s not every day that you find someone as passionate about a project as Joshua. Staff was so moved by his eagerness to help, we asked him a few questions:

PlayGrand Adventures: You did a car wash last year during the Miles for Smiles campaign. Why did you do it, and why do you want to do it again?
Joshua: I did the carwash last time because my family and I love to help people no matter what it takes out of us. Also, I like to make a difference in people lives. I am doing the carwash for a second time because I think that people of all abilities should have somewhere to go to have fun and be worry free.

PlayGrand Adventures: Why are you so passionate about PlayGrand Adventures?
Joshua: I am passionate about PlayGrand Adventures because I think that all people should be able to enjoy time in the outdoors no matter what disabilities they have or don’t have.

PlayGrand Adventures: What would you say to others who want to get involved, or help with this project?
Joshua: I would tell them that they could donate money to go to building of the all-inclusive park, or they can help out at the carwash. All money raised at the carwash will support the Miles for Smiles campaign.

Event Details:
Saturday May 19, 2018
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Long John Silver’s parking lot
680 W Pioneer Pkwy, Grand Prairie, TX 75051

We hope you will come out this Saturday to support Joshua and PlayGrand Adventures. All proceeds from the carwash will be contributed to the “Miles for Smiles” campaign which GPISD students are participating in to help raise money for this life-changing project.

Remember Kechi from America’s Got Talent?

Remember Kechi from America’s Got Talent?

See Kechi LIVE in concert on May 5 at the Uptown Theater. An Evening with Kechi, presented by Baylor Orthopedic and Spine Hospital at Arlington and Landscape Structures Incorporated, is a fundraiser for the PlayGrand Adventures Foundation. PlayGrand Adventures is the largest all-inclusive playground being planned for Dallas-Ft. Worth, and will have many unique components to be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.

Kechi was a finalist on America’s Got Talent in 2017. As a teenager, she was only one of two survivors in a plane crash that killed 107 people. Despite visible burns on more than 65% of her body, Kechi bravely appeared on the televised talent show and continued to wow the judges and America as they voted her into the finals. The evening will feature a raffle, an auction, specialty drinks, and an additional performance on some of the outdoor musical instruments that will be installed on the playground site.

Concert-goers can purchase tickets at two levels: VIP tickets for $75 which gives preferred seating and a meet and greet with Kechi at a reception. Or, general admission tickets at $50. To purchase tickets or for more information, call The Uptown Theater at 972-237-8786 or visit https://UptownTheaterGP.com.

There’s Movement on the PlayGrand Adventures Site!

By | #PlayGrand

Over the past year, the PlayGrand Adventures team has been busy raising funds to begin the construction on the playground. With the expectation of starting construction in late Spring 2018, things are beginning to take place on-site.

The restroom building on the northeast portion of the property is nearing completion. This building includes 4 oversized accessible restrooms sized to accommodate large wheelchairs with sturdy benches for families. The restroom at PlayGrand Adventures will also serve the needs of EpicCentral park users through the interconnected trail system.

Informational banners have been placed at the southern boundary limits with “PlayGrand Adventures Coming Soon,” and a sponsor/partner banner displaying the project’s most current playground contributors. As more sponsors come on board, their information will be added. These banners make a huge statement, generate excitement for the project, and continue the marketing campaign.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available and the PlayGrand committee is working hard to fulfill everyone’s expectations. If you would like to donate, or know a business or corporation that may be interested in sponsorship opportunities, please visit PlayGrandAdventures.com.

PlayGrand Adventures Gains Major Sponsors

By | #PlayGrand

PlayGrand Adventures, Grand Prairie’s inclusive playground, soon to be under construction, that will serve the diverse needs of children and adults regardless of ability, is receiving several major sponsorships at the 6:30 p.m. City Council meeting of Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at City Hall, 317 College Street, Grand Prairie.

Allan Beck, president and CEO of Baylor Orthopedic and Spine Hospital at Arlington, will present a $250,000 donation for the Adventure Zone, one of seven play zones within PlayGrand Adventures, that will feature the highest-intensity play for all ability levels.  The zone incorporates vibrant and whimsical play equipment, with a wide variety of play opportunities such as climbing, swinging, and spinning.  Abundant shade and areas to socialize will be spaced throughout the playground project.  This zone includes a play area specifically designed for toddlers with separated activities on a miniature scale.

Patrick Lawler, president and CEO of P. Lawler Enterprises and a Grand Prairie business owner, is donating $50,000 toward a PlayScape piece called ‘Prairie Grass Nets’. This climbing piece resembling prairie wheat puff cocoons allow users to climb into and socialize inside or interact with participants, especially those with mobility limitations below.

Celina Cardenas Fleites, manager of public affairs for Atmos Energy Corporation, will represent the company’s $30,000 donation toward the Adventure Village, a future phase at PlayGrand Adventures. The Adventure Village play zone will reflect daily life in Grand Prairie and just about any town across this nation. With miniature sponsored everyday life destinations and historic city locations and features, this zone will promote learning about municipal safety as well as bike safety and daily life style activities.

More than $700,000 has been raised from fund raising campaigns and sponsorships including Stripe a Zone $50,000, American Resource Management $50,000, Open Air $25,000, LOH Foundation $25,000, Freese & Nichols $12,500 and Halff Associates $10,000, as well as many individual donations. The Grand Prairie ISD has sponsored Miles for Smiles fun-raisers for the past two years totaling over $70,000 in donations.

Combined with two million allocated from the City of Grand Prairie, the first phase of PlayGrand Adventures is expected to open late summer 2018 in the city’s Grand Central Park at SH 161 and Arkansas Lane, near the EPIC Mega-Recreation Center opening early 2018 and Epic Waters Year-Round Indoor Water Park opening late 2017.

“North Texas is home to more than 660,000 individuals living with a disability,” said Allan Beck, Chief Executive Officer of Baylor Orthopedic and Spine Hospital at Arlington. “PlayGrand Adventures will be an innovative destination playground for the region and will offer an opportunity for all to play, interact and develop skills in a fun, safe, outdoor environment. Baylor Arlington proudly supports these efforts and is excited to sponsor this unique inclusive playground.”

The ten-acre PlayGrand Adventures playground will feature a series of playground “Pods” or adventure areas ranging from high intensity to peaceful and quiet, and from modern and colorful to rustic and nature-themed. The unique playground concept was designed to enhance the sensory, physical, cognitive, and social abilities of those that enjoy the playground. The Adventure Zone, sponsored by Baylor Arlington, will join other PlayGrand pods including Adventure Hill, Tranquil Adventures, Adventure Challenge, Exploration Zone, Adventure Sports, Adventure Village and Adventure Stars.

“The City of Grand Prairie appreciates the partnership of all our sponsors toward this worthy project,” said Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen. “With donations like these from Baylor, Stripe-A-Zone, Atmos and Lawler Enterprises, we get that much closer to opening this important park.”

Playground Adventures has been in the planning and design process for more than three years. The development of PlayGrand Adventures will be in a series of phases with the first phase anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2018. The City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is developing the park as a collaborative effort that includes professionals and parents skilled at working with children with special needs. One hundred percent of all donations and contributions will go directly into the construction of PlayGrand Adventures, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit foundation. For additional information or to donate to the project, please go to PlayGrandAdventures.com.

PlayGrand Adventures Announces First Major Sponsor!

By | #PlayGrand

The City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department has received it’s first large financial sponsorship from Stripe-A-Zone. Stripe-A-Zone is a Grand Prairie company offering pavement marking services around Texas since 1950, and has committed $50,000 to the project. Thank you Stripe-A-Zone for this generous contribution.

PlayGrand Adventures playground will be located at the corner of Warrior Trail and Waterwood Dr. within Grand Central Park. PlayGrand Adventures will be a playground where everyone of all ages and abilities can experience ‘Epic’ play. The playground will be designed to stimulate, challenge, and encourage development of several skill sets while providing social interaction, sense of discovery, creativity, and exercise.

This playground will be a part of the EPIC project, and one that has great potential of bringing together children and adults in a safe, exciting, comfortable, and fun atmosphere. Funding has been authorized as part of the EPIC Recreation Center and EPIC Waters for the Phase I PlayGrand Adventures Project. However, we are dreaming even bigger and want to build future phases as part of the initial development. This truly will be an EPIC project and a continued EPIC experience for all ages and abilities in our community.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available and the PlayGrand committee is working hard to fulfill everyone’s expectations. If you would like to donate, please visit PlayGrandAdventures.com.
